   His commissions include illustrations for a guide to the birds of India to be published by the Smithsonian Institution, and the Mexican Postal Service has honored him by using four of his paintings for postage stamps, and others (see right) raise money for conservation. 
   Anyone who has looked through one of the more recent field guides to North American birds has seen Hans Peeters' work.  He painted many of the color plates in The American Bird Conservancy's All the Birds of North America (1997) and, because he is
also a working ornithologist, served as a scientific
consultant for the book as well. He is author and illustrator of Raptors of California (2005) and Owls of California and the West (2007) (both University of California Press).

Lanner Falcon
    His larger paintings have been featured in books including The Best of Wildlife Art (1997) and
Wildlife Art (1999).  His work has appeared in popular publications such as Audubon Magazine and
Architectural Digest, and it hangs in permanent collections of the prestigious Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum and The Peregrine Fund among others. 
    Hans paints mammals as well, and is illlustrator and co-author of the field guide, Mammals of California, published by University of California Press (2nd edition, 2004).  As a biologist, he acts as a consultant to various government agencies, private firms, and authors.

Conservation
    August, 2001, Mexico City  --  Hans met with the Mexican Secretary of the Navy and the Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources to discuss the reintroduction of the
Socorro Dove to Socorro Island.  This little-known island, 600 miles off the western coast of Mexico, is home to a surprising number of unique plants, and animals and it and two other
islands in the archipelago are ranked by the World Wildlife Fund with the Galapagos
Islands as concerns endangered species.

    November, 2001, Mazatlan, Mexico,  and January, 2002, Reno, Nevada --  Official ceremonies at which Hans performed the first cancellations of two new Mexican postage stamps of his design.
